As man page say here https://www.kernel.org/pub/software/scm/git/docs/git-cvsimport.html , try to use the tigris tool:
http://cvs2svn.tigris.org/cvs2git.html
or
https://github.com/BartMassey/parsecvs

I think the first one is better. The executable of cvs2git is part of the 'cvs2svn' package available in every distribution.
To install using CentOS use 'yum install cvs2svn' (without quotes).

Test on cvs2git already executed in the past. Test lo reported in http://redmine.iasfbo.inaf.it/projects/system/wiki/Test_con_cvs2git

I have not found cvs2git on ciws VM.
How is possible to install it?

(NB: the current ciws reference VM is ice.giano.iasfbo)
